Gone Home is a sure-footed piece of interactive storytelling that makes its biggest stumble at the start. It opens with what some may find to be a classic piece of misdirection, but I found it to be a rather hokey framing device. As protagonist Kaitlin Greenbriar, returning from a yearlong journey around Europe, you arrive at your family’s new home at night, rain lashing the creaking porch timbers, as thunder rumbles ominously in the background. It’s the visual language of Hollywood horror, used to introduce a story that otherwise refuses to stoop to cliché.
